Measure twice at the widest points and work in metres from the start: mixing millimetres and metres is the most common source of ordering errors. For depths quoted in millimetres, divide by 1,000 before multiplying.
Irregular spaces break down into simple shapes. An L shaped room is two rectangles, a curved bed edge is close enough to a circle segment, and a sloped side makes a triangle. Add a section per shape and let the total accumulate.
